More than 330,000 oxen and over 44,000 buffaloes have been exported till March
2019 in 2018-19 iscal year starting, up from the period when the exportation of cattle was allowed, according to the Ministry of Commerce.
The ministry allowed export of cattle alive on 9 October 2017 and issued export licences for 50,264 buffaloes and 413,781 oxen from 2017-18 iscal year to March 2018-19 iscal year.
Hence, businesspersons have exported 44,640 buffaloes and 331,120 oxen till today. A canned factory was launched its operation in Lontong region of China, opposite site of Namkham of Myanmar, in February 2018.
Hence, the Chinese government emphasized import of cattle to China. Chinese merchants bought Myanmar’s cattle at low prices. On 29 March this year, there were some 6,000 cattle at farms around Muse border trade market. As these cattle did not have opportunities to be exported to international market through legal route, there was no option for these cattle except lowing into the canned factory of Lontong of China through illegal routes.
Hence, they are expected to be sent to China through the illegal route near Manweingyi in Kachin State. If so, local merchants from Muse border trade market and other businesspersons criticized Chinese merchants are trying to manipulate these cattle market in order to access the value of cattle as they like.
