A British tourist who claims she was gang-raped by a group of Israeli teenagers described seeing her attackers’ faces ‘one after the other’ for an hour.
The 19-year-old woman told police that the attack happened on Wednesday morning, in a hotel in Ayia Napa – a party resort on Cyprus’ south east coast.
Twelve youths accused of raping her, all from Israel and aged between 16 and 18, were remanded in custody.
The alleged victim told officers that “one of them held me down and then I saw at least 12 other faces, for an hour or so, one after the other,”
She said: “I was released at a certain point after I had learned or fainted and I ran out of the room, met friends and they took me half naked to the clinic,” according to the Israeli news channel.
“I do remember that until about 1am, the friends I did not know raped me, some of them with a condom and some of them without. They hurt my whole body.”
The woman also told police that the group took videos during the alleged attack, Ynet News reports.
She had scratches on her lower limbs, according to court documents.
Three of the teenagers arrested were taken to the Famagusta Court, in Paralimni, yesterday and the remaining nine arrived an hour later.
The group claim the alleged victim is lying and say she was encouraged by another British tourist to contact police.
The woman is reported to have met a member of the group three days before the incident, which allegedly happened in Pambos Napa Rocks hotel.
She reportedly told police she had gone to a party with one of the group, who she had met and slept with previously.
When they went back to his room, she said 11 others rushed in and attacked her at around 3.30am, according to Ynet News in Israel.
In accordance with Cypriot law on rape cases and because some of the suspects are legally minors, proceedings were conducted behind closed doors.
