Subjecting your phone to an untrusted network that someone set up with malicious purpose is not a good idea. Avoid using Now WiFi Pass or open Xfinity WiFi connections unless they are hosted by you on an Xfinity Mobile plan that is compatible or come from a known source. If your iOS or Android phone is programmed to automatically connect to public Xfinity WiFi hotspots, you cannot prevent this problem. But, you can disable the auto-connect feature by going into your mobile settings, which we walk you through in the section below.

To stop your phone from connecting to a public network when you’re a visitor using someone else’s Xfinity WiFi hotspot or Now WiFi Pass, follow the instructions below. How to disable an Xfinity WiFi hotspot on an iOS or Android device

Assuming you are the principal owner of the public Xfinity WiFi hotspot source, follow these procedures. To stop devices from connecting to the network, turn off auto-hotspot. To avoid unauthorized access, make sure your Wi-Fi password and SSID are safe.

While we walk through these procedures using an Android phone below, you can download the Xfinity app for iOS from the App Store. iOS users can follow along as the steps are the same for the iOS app.

Open the app for Xfinity.

Open your Xfinity account and log in.

Select WiFi > View available WiFi.

Choose the Advanced settings option.
Hover over the Xfinity WiFi hotspot network.

Turn off Engage in Xfinity WiFi by toggling it to the left.
Why disable an Xfinity WiFi hotspot’s access?

You may want to disable the Xfinity WiFi auto-hotspot feature for a number of reasons, even if it’s convenient for your devices to automatically connect to an available network. Congestion on the network is one of the causes. An excessive number of devices connecting to the hotspot at once may cause your internet speed to decrease. This results in programs loading slowly, internet browsing taking longer than usual, and downloads slowing down (or stalling).
Privacy is a further justification. If the hotspot is left open, anyone nearby may be able to access it without authorization. Unauthorized users may be able to access shared files on the same network as well as your network and personal information. By disabling the Xfinity WiFi auto-hotspot function and altering the default SSID and password, you can avoid these issues.

You run the risk of experiencing network congestion, data theft, and security risks if you automatically connect as a visitor to someone else’s Xfinity WiFi hotspot. If you access websites without HTTPS encryption, hosted hotspots can also be used to track your activities and phish for personal information.
